PLATO® Interactive Mathematics

10.0 to 11.0 Client Update Instructions

For version 11.0

The Client Updater is used to update 10.0 PLATO® Interactive Mathematics clients and 9.0 PLATO® Interactive English clients to the latest client version (11.0). If you are trying to update an earlier version of the client you will need to use the Client Installer CD for your product.

Updating your client using this updater replaces or copies only files required for the new 11.0 client. As a result, the update will take only a fraction of the time usually required for a full client installation. However, in order to take the best advantage of the updater, you should have your 11.0 Client Installer CD in the CD drive while the update is in progress. The updater will use files from the CD. If you do not have the CD available, the updater will get the files from the Internet.

To run the Client Updater

1.      If you are updating a Windows 2000 workstation, make sure you are logged in as a user with Administrative privileges.

2.      On the Online Resources page (located at http://www2.academic.com/resources/onlineresources.htm), in the Server and Client Updates section, click the Fall 2005 Client Update Instructions and Patch link.

3.      On the Client Update Instructions and Patch page, click Fall 2005 Client Update to begin the client update process.

4.      When the update begins, you will see the following dialog.

5.       If you have the 11.0 Client Installer CD, verify that it is in the CD drive. Or, you can map a drive on your workstation that points to the root of the client installer image on another machine. When you have inserted the CD or mapped a network drive, click OK to proceed.
NOTE: If you do not have the 11.0 Client Installer CD and do not map a drive, the files you need will be downloaded from the Internet. This will slow down the installation process.
NOTE: If you change your mind and do not want to run the client update, you can click Cancel to exit the update. No files on your machine will be changed.

6.      As files are copied and installed you will see dialog boxes showing the installation progress, as shown below. Only files required for the 11.0 Client will be modified or added.

8.      Upon successful verification the dialog shown below appears. In addition, new browser windows will be opened. There is no need to do anything at this point.

9.      After the browser registration you get the final dialog.

If one or more of the files fail verification, you will receive an error dialog. Follow the instructions on the error dialog, shown below.
