Server Updater Instructions

(For updating an 8.5, 8.6,9.0, 10.0 Windows-based server to version 11.0)

 

The ServerUpdater utility allows you to upgrade your Windows-based 8.5, 8.6, 9.0 or 10.0server to an 11.0 server.  This document describes the steps necessary tosuccessfully update your server.

 

You can runthe Server Updater utility on a PLATOŽ Interactive Mathematics or PLATOŽInteractive English client workstation or on your Windows NT, Windows 2000,orWindows 2003 server.

 

Before you begin

Before yourun the Server Updater utility, please verify the following:

 

Updating the Server

Use thefollowing steps  run the Server Updater utility on your server:

  1. Download the Server Updater from the Online Resources web site. Use the following steps to download and save the Server Updater file.

a.      On the OnlineResources page (located at http://www2.academic.com/resources/onlineresources.htm), in the Server and Client Updates section, click Server Update andInstructions Patch.

b.      On the ServerUpdate Instructions and Patch page, click Server Update. Downloadof the Server Updater will begin.

c.      If you are usingNetscape, skip to the next step.
If you are using Internet Explorer,
inthe File Download dialog box, select Save this program to disk. Then,click OK.

d.      In the Save As dialogbox, choose to save the file to your desktop. Then, click Save.

e.      If you are usingNetscape, skip to the next step.
If you are using Internet Explorer, in the Download Complete dialog box, click OpenFolder.

NOTE: If you chose to save the file to your desktop, you willsee a dialog box stating that the file is on the desktop. Click OK and go toyour desktop to see the file.

  1. Locate the server updater file you downloaded and double-click. A WinZip self-extractable dialog appears. The necessary files will automatically decompress without any action on your part. After all the files are decompressed, the Server Updater launches automatically.
  2. At the dialog reminding you that you should not run the Server Updater while using Terminal Services Client, click OK if you are not using the Terminal Services Client. If you are using a Terminal Services client, you will not be allowed to proceed with the server update. In this case, click Cancel.

  1. At the Login dialog, shown below, select the name of your campus and enter your valid Instructional Support System log-on name and password. Click OK.

 

  1. As the Server Updater begins the upgrade process, you will see a progress dialog showing the progress of the update.  The update will take a few minutes.

NOTE: If there are any errors during theupdate, a dialog box displaying the error message is displayed. At this point,you can elect to re-run the Server Updater or contact the Technical Supportstaff for assistance.

  1. When the update is complete, a successful completion dialog, similar to the one shown below, appears. At the dialog, click OK. The Server Updater will finish and automatically exit.

           

Updating theClient Files on the Server

If you wantto install client workstations from your server, you will need to update theclient files on your server. To do this, use the steps below.

1.       Locate your PLATOŽ InteractiveMathematics Client Installer version 11.0 CD.

2.       Insert the CD into your server’sCD-ROM drive.

3.       At the installer splash screen, clickthe Other Options button.

4.       At the Other Options screen, click theCopy Installer button. The new client files will be copied to thecorrect location on your server.

5.       When the copy is complete, remove theCD.
