Using the Standalone academic.com
Configuration Manager
Use the following steps to run the academic.com Configuration Manager on your machine without first logging in to academic.com.
1. Download the Standalone academic.com Configuration Manager (plugin_installer.exe) from the Fall 2005 Online Resources page and save it onto your desktop. The Fall 2005 Online resources page is located at www2.academic.com/resources/onlineresources.htm.
2. On your desktop, double-click plugin_installer.exe to start the Standalone Configuration Manager.
3. At the Welcome dialog, from the list of academic.com compatible browsers, select the browser you wish to configure to run with academic.com. Then, click Configure. Downloading of the required plug-ins begins.
NOTE: If only one compatible browser is detected this dialog will not appear. The standalone Configuration Manager will simply install plug-ins for the single compatible browser

4. Only those plug-ins needed to configure the selected browser to run academic.com are downloaded. The Plug-in Download Status dialog shows you the progress of the download process.

5. Once all the required downloads have completed, installation of the plug-ins begins. The Plug-in Installation Status dialog shows the progress of the installation.

6. When all of the required plug-ins have been installed, the browser you selected is launched and the Click2XL home page is shown. At the Click2XL home page, select the name of your school. Then, click Continue.

7. At the confirmation dialog, click OK to confirm the selected school and go to the academic.com home page for that school. If the school name shown is incorrect, click Cancel to return to the Click2XL home page and choose another school.

NOTE: For some Netscape browsers a security dialog may appear requiring you to click Continue before going to your campus home page. Two versions of these security dialogs are shown below.

8. At your school home page, log on as you would normally. Your machine is now configured to run academic.com content.
